Crossville Fire & Rescue is an organization that is made up of complete volunteers. These
volunteers spend alot of their time and sometimes money, devoted to helping others.
Why a VOLUNTEER organization instead of a Paid Fire
& Rescue. Well its simple, there is just not enough money in the state fund. It is estimated that it
would cost tax payers an extra 37 billion dollars yearly to house fire depts. with paid members. However that
is not the main reason, the main reason is that there are people right here in the community of Crossville who give up
time from their day and sometimes even money for their nieghbor.Because they care they are on call 24/7.

FIRE SAFETY TIPS
IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, ALWAYS CALL 911 !
Here is a list of great fire safety tips to use at your house:
1. Check your smoke detectors
every 3 weeks and change the battery every 3 months.
2. Have a Type ABC Fire Extinguisher and know where it is located.
3. Avoid Fire Hazards in your home such as pluging too many plugs into one outlet using adaptors.
4. Have a Fire Plan(aka: What you do when the house catches on fire) and practice it often.
5. Never play with matches. . . you might get burned.
6. Before you burn a brush pile in your backyard. . .please contact your local Fire Dept. or Emergency Management
Agency. This is not only for your safety, but for the safety of the Firefighters that might respond in a hurry to your
house because they think it is a real emergency. By Law, you should contact the Alabama Forestry Devison in your area.
